MVP Fun Run 2012 - My Recovery Sunday

April 1, after my Salomon Trail run I've been thinking what could be the best recovery run, my legs are still fine and  in good shape after that 24 kilometer trail and road  race. Been planning to bandit with  the 10 Mile Yakult run  but I just feel like not into it. I got hooked with the computer rather late Saturday night, so I just thought of doing my own recovery run after the Palm Sunday Mass the following day.
But just before I go back to sleep I receive an SMS message from Aaron forwarding a message from Arvin inviting us for to join 5 kilometer fun run as part of their company's Mini Olympic event. I give it a thought, I feel not motivated to prepare my road running attire but I finally decided to join. Have to wake up early, go to the meeting place and proceed to Meralco compound. We arrive just in time for the gun start, Aaron just hand me his other race bib number so that I will run with a number as well. I just take it my own slow pace, without even thinking of sprinting at some point. This is a recovery run for me after all. My friends all sprint, all of them now ahead of me, even Arvin who started late than myself. It's a two loop run inside the Meralco compound, towards the finish line  I saw one familiar face, my friend from PLDT.  I got a chance to chat with him again. I rush the finish line in 31:24 minutes.

After the run, I just enjoy watching the clusters of  employees from different group of companies, chatting, taking pictures, eating, or just simply being around. It is evident on their faces that they have so much fun participating this particular part of their company event. I can imagine how much more supportive each one of them are on the other sports of this event. I miss Sir Carl and Jing though but I am glad to chat with Pompo, Ellen S., Joyce and Ellen E and the others too.

We stayed for the awarding ceremony, chatting with other runners and taking pictures with the MVP stars. That was a one fun recovery run for me. Thank you Arvin for inviting us and it always feel great to be with Smart friends.

Recovery Monday

Coming from a TNF recon weekend, I decided to take my Monday easy. I even come to the office a bit late than my usual time, but still thinking of having an active recovery activity despite my still sore legs from the weekends activity. And I suddenly remember, I need to go to Bonifacio High Street to claim my small size Salomon XTrail jersey. Rather than spending for a transportation going there I thought of running on a not so late afternoon time. I decided to send a message to Rica which she agreed, 3:00pm would be ideal, I can still be home earlier.

So from my office, I drop by Rica's place and we did a combination of walk and relax pace run  from Ayala to the street of McKinley up to Bonifacio High Street and coming back to Ayala up to my place. Not bad after all, I managed to squeeze in a not so long recovery run today.

Not my Usual Thursday

Active recovery is all that I've been thinking since Monday, that is after my long ultra race last weekend. But my legs are really sore, I really need to rest it for a while from running. Need to have it recover as well. So all I did is just do some short distance walk from my office to other short distance errands until yesterday. I tried to bring my running shoes yesterday but I decided still not to run. I can still feel some pain on my muscles on the legs. And this morning, since there is a vehicle caravan (strike) and they said it will be difficult to get a ride, I decided to put on my running shoes, running attire going to the office but making some pit stops  at Pasay Victory Liner to buy my ticket for this weekend's Baguio trip and along the way stop at Julie's bakeshop to buy some bread before heading to my office in Ayala. It was a nice brisk walk, I get to know some streets nearby where I live. It's very tempting to run at some parts but I just keep my pace of walking. Take me an hour and 10 minutes to do it. Not bad. Another one later on my way home.

Recovery Run - Cogeo Antipolo Route

Arvin has been planning to do a long slow distance run for Jepoy and Aaron, they will be doing a 42K run at SCM-SG this coming December. And my usual self said yes without even thinking what will be my schedule days before that. This is suppose to be an overnight stay at Tanay, so that we can run a longer distance the following day but because we are just few, cost of the resort will be much higher which the group decided to just leave the city early morning but on a different route as well.

I've been thinking of not joining anymore the night before, my legs are still sore from the run but I thought I can always just do a super relax pace, just walk while the others will run. Which I did the first 30 minutes, but when one runner pass by me and encourage me to do a slow running pace which he joined me as well, I finally started to run on the uphill part of the road. As the road goes further and the jeepneys and cars become lesser the horizon becomes wider and my sight has become more of the mountains, trees and green lush bushes, I begin to enjoy the run without thinking anymore my sore and aching legs.

As the one hour turn around cut off sets, I receive a text from Arvin, I thought of just continueing to run and just turn around when I meet them. As that happens, I was already with them going down up to where we started. It was a good run after all. I want to do this route next time on a fresh legs.

We ended our adventure with a great meal at Baliwag ERod, a cool choco vanilla with banana shake sooths our thirst from the run.
